Investigation of Fire Enhancement in Pool Fire by Water Mist

Lu Qiang,Li Gai,Liao Guangxuan,Huan Gxin,Zhu Wei

Strategic Study of CAE 2006, Volume 8, Issue 7,   Pages 78-82

Abstract:

In the process of water mist fire suppression the phenomenon of fire expansion may be found initially. Experiments and theoretic study show that evaporation of mist on the surface of fuel plays a crucial role in the fire expansion. In experiments of varied conditions, it is found that volatility of fuel and characteristics of water mist determine the degree of fire intensification. It is found that water in the bottom of tray will make fuel surface temperature and fire heat release rate descend. And with increase of water quantity, fire intensification will be weakened, extinguishing time also be shortened. So further research on change of fire heat release rate owing to water pouring is necessary to ensure the reliability of experiment data.

An approach to locational marginal price based zonal congestion management in deregulated electricity market

Md SARWAR,Anwar Shahzad SIDDIQUI

Frontiers in Energy 2016, Volume 10, Issue 2,   Pages 240-248 doi: 10.1007/s11708-016-0404-z

Abstract: Congestion of transmission line is a vital issue and its management pose a technical challenge in power system deregulation. Congestion occurs in deregulated electricity market when transmission capacity is not sufficient to simultaneously accommodate all constraints of power transmission through a line. Therefore, to manage congestion, a locational marginal price (LMP) based zonal congestion management approach in a deregulated electricity market has been proposed in this paper. As LMP is an economic indicator and its difference between two buses across a transmission line provides the measure of the degree of congestion, therefore, it is efficiently and reliably used in deregulated electricity market for congestion management. This paper utilizes the difference of LMP across a transmission line to categorize various congestion zones in the system. After the identification of congestion zones, distributed generation is optimally placed in most congestion sensitive zones using LMP difference in order to manage congestion. The performance of the proposed methodology has been tested on the IEEE 14-bus system and IEEE 57-bus system.

Review of Study of Water Mist Fire Protection Systems on Shipboard

Lu Qiang,Liao Guangxuan,Huang Xin,Wan Tianbin

Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 9,   Pages 88-94

Abstract:

During the last decade, water mist fire protection technologies have always been the hotspot in world safty field. Being the large consumer of Halon 1301 and Halon 1211 primarily, navies of most countries in the world felt more enthusiasm about it. US Navy, Royal Navy and other navies have undertaken an extensive study of water mist for fire protection applications aboard ship, especially in machinery spaces. And the results of the testing and theoretic study conducted by them are encouraging. Their study will be summarized in this paper, the purpose of this paper is twofold: to introduce their study to the fire protection workers in China and to provide a reference to China Navy in this field.

Strategic Study of CAE 2006, Volume 8, Issue 2,   Pages 75-79

Abstract:

In fire environments, the traditional fire extinguishing agents can't effectually put out a fire which is sheltered by barrier. Now, a lot of water mist fire extinguishing researches have been made . This paper mainly studies the validity of water mist fire extinguishing and investigates the controlling and extinguishing effects of water mist fire extinguishing when barrier exists. At the same time, this paper also studies how the key factors, including opening degree between nozzle and barrier, water mist pressure, water mist flux and so on, influence the fire extinguishing validity, analyzes the water mist fire extinguishing characters when barrier exists, gives the reason why the water mist can't put out a fire in some conditions, and provides references for practical engineering application.
